Base: Apitchou

I couldn't resist when EE's New Year Bash provided a Sylar request. He's pretty and evil and pretty evil. And fun to doll. This version is based on an obscure promo shot for the show that had ZQ in a vest. I added a pocket watch chain as a nod to his former unevil days, and pinstripes on the pants for panache. You can never have too much panache.

Base: Apitchou

Another EE NY request. I've wanted to retackle (ahem . . .) Mohinder ever since I made a mini-version of him. I think I wimped out with details and shading, but I'm still happy as he still looks somewhat Mohindery.

Base: Megaema

FeyMeggan's EE NY request list was chock full o' interesting male characters, none of whom I had heard of before, but I was intrigued and in the mood to stretch some creative muscles. Unfortunately, I'm still suffering from the long-standing curse of "I can never make something for FM that I think is to a satisfactory standard".

Base: Precious Pixels KH (left), Dark Souls (right)

More EE NY requests. I think one of the things I'll miss most about EE are the events where people made dolls for complete strangers in return for other strangers making dolls for them. It was a terrific idea and the response was always generous. On the left, Banana requested a "cute boy". I knew I could do that. On the right, Dead Kittie requested something gothic. I'd never made anything gothic before, but figured then was as good a time as any to try. She's not particularly gothic, though. She's kind of a cute punk goth. (A cupoth? A gunkte?)

Base: Cathie's Crazie Creations (dragon), The Silver Light (doll), PoppedArtDolls (charms)

Last of the EE NY gifts. Man, that event really kicked my tv-shaped muse in the butt. And if I had more time, I'd do a lot more experimenting with my charm base.

Base: Julie's Dolls

So I participated in the latest Secret Santa event at FF. I always stress about getting the pixelling done at the height of the Christmas rush, but I think the inspiration it provides gives me an extra boost of incentive. This year, I was assigned to CrankyAngel. I proceeded to render three of her favourite actors in three of their former roles. From left to right: John Cusack as Rob Gordon (High Fidelity), Keanu Reeves as Ted (in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey garb), and Johnny Depp as Sam (Benny & Joon).

Base: Caffeinated Creations

I'm pretty sure the fancy-tickling feeling of seeing your own based used is universal in the community, so I thought I'd make CA a doll on one of her bases. I must stretch my avatar base horizons more often - I really like how this turned out.

Bases: Orathty's Realm

Okay, so EE had this brilliant little event that had members randomly fulfilling the wishes of other members. Not only was it a feel-good activity where you can bask in the whole RAK-like glow, but it was a major kick in the rump of my dolling funk, which had been hanging around my neck like a mariner's albatross for quite some time. This particular doll was made for Orathty, who wished for dolls made on her bases. After discovering this base, I couldn't pass it up - this is one swanky male base!

I like the pants, but am not happy with the shirt. I don't understand shirt folds. At all. But I will start studying them in the wild (with requisite documentary crew) so I can know more about them.

Base: Apitchou

Another wish fulfillment, hopefully it's somewhat obvious that this is Sirius Black, circa Order of the Phoenix. I've wanted to doll him ever since I saw the movie, partly because I'm a long-time Gary Oldman fan, and partly because I really liked the swanky suits they dressed him in.

Base: PoppedArtDolls

One early request was for a doll of Patrick from Fall Out Boy. I'd never heard of Fall Out Boy before, but I was hankering to doll yet another guy with a guitar. I was inspired by pictures of this particular frontman, mostly because he likes to wear hats, and any guy who plays a guitar and wears a hat is totally okay in my books. :)

Base: Sanity Challenged

Another request was made for a doll based on a comic book character. The moment I read the request, my brain instantly thought of a very particular Calvin & Hobbes strip, and I kneeeeew I had a base that was perfectly suited for it. I quickly found it, and the funky jams soon followed. So this is my interpretation of Hobbes as a human. He needs stripes somewhere . . .

Base: Sanity Challenged

This was the first wish I attempted to grant. Feeling tender after Senor Lack of Inspiration-o had kicked me around for awhile, I went with a small base to create the two Johns of They Might Be Giants. I wish I could have done a better job for the recipient, because the wicked cool Manservant Hecubus head (not as evil as it sounds!) she made for me is twenty times keener than mustard.

Base: Miaka's Dolls

Since I got bogged down during the Christmas season, I had to make my Christmas gift a New Years gift instead. So yes. I think that's supposed to be me, harbouring some sort of secret desire to be . . . in a funky pipe band?!

Base: Apitchou
Wings: Crazie Cathie

These next four dolls were all made for FF's Secret Santa exchange last Christmas. I drew Elyssa as my giftee and saw we had a lot of the same intrests. A bout of dolling insanity followed.

Elyssa and I both seem to enjoy the talents of Alan Rickman. Because 95% of all AR dolls out there are Snape-ish, I decided to go for some less popular roles. Voici Metatron from Dogma.

By the way, have I mentioned that this is my favouritest base in the whole wide world? I have? Oh, okay then. :)

Base: Duk-Toonz

When I first made this Alan Rickman/Sheriff of Nottingham doll, it really bugged me how he didn't look like the character at all. It took me weeks to figure it out - I had forgotten the Goatee of Evil™! The malevolent facial hair is definitely an improvement, methinks. Don't mock it, or he'll carve your heart out with a spoon!

Base: Stellar Swirls

If I had all the time and energy in the world, I'd probably have 101 Jem-related dolls already completed, but for now I'll just have to settle for the odd bout of gifty inspiration.

Base: Apitchou

She is no man. Also, she is kind of small.

Penguin Lineart: Totally Jersey
Orca & charm: PoppedArtDolls
Llama outline: Freedom's Little Corner (site closed)

Three of Elyssa's favourite animals just happen to be mine too. I mean, who can resist a bearded llama?

Base: PoppedArtDolls

This is more of a shop item than a gift, but I don't have enough shoppery to warrant a new page. Anyway, I finally opened a shop this year! Woot! I've always wanted to, but my frequent spontaneous absenteeism doesn't really loan itself to effective shop keeping. However, I took advantage of FF's limited time only Halloween marketplace this year to sell some trinkets. FINALLY tested out my charm base. Still a few kinks to hammer out . . . .

Base: Precious Pixels KH

After having some terrific luck with my contests, my Breakfast Club Remix contest was a bit of a bomb. I'm trying not to ponder the logic of doll contests too much because I don't think one actually exists. At any rate, I did get three Breakfastastic entries and this was my thank you (for entering)/sorry (for cancelling the contest) gift.

Base: Strange Kitty (site closed)

Recent The Office obsession + long comparitve analyses between the UK & the US version + Elfie's birthday = this gift of the UK crew, namely Dawn, Tim, Gareth and a David I couldn't get quite right.

Base: Two Blonds and a Pixel

Just a very small something for my Firefly contest judges. Once again I inadvertently draw myself, this time with shoes I don't have, but probably should.

Base: Mariiiis Doll House

A small giftee for the judges of my tea contest. It's probably an indicator of my complete lack of imagination, but a lot of the time when I attempt a plain, casual doll, it ends up looking suspiciously like me. This one seems to be wearing my clothes, although my hair never looks that good. Plus, I have unrosy cheeks and a slight overbite.

Left charm base: Wayuki's Place
Right charm base: Nuclear Tes

Valentine's Day and a full-on charm addiction collided this February, resulting in these two Vday gifts.

Base: Petit Pixel (site closed)

So I was trying to decide on a suitable Christmas subject for a seasonal giftie and it came down to a three-way tie between Christmas emo dude, Christmas ninja, and Christmas pirate. Emo dude was scrapped because surly is polka dots to Christmas Spirit's stripes, and the ninja idea was discarded for no other reason than I simply love to draw pirate coats. Le voila. Holly want a cracker?

Base: Island of Misfit Toys (site closed)

Another item from the Secret Santa workshop. The gift recipient mentioned her favourite actress was Angelina Jolie, so I dolled her as Aeon Flux, a movie that was out at the time. What? You don't remember it? Strangely, neither do I . . .

Base: Faery Ink

An av from Secret Santa's workshop. The elves almost went on strike over this one, although in the end, they realized their collective agreement had no provision for fighting .gif monsters. It was a pretty ugly scene: the .gif monster marching away triumphantly from a shop floor littered with broken candy canes and union grievance forms.

Base: Pushfrog

Just a simple autumnal doll who ended up looking suspiciously self-portraitized. I've always wanted to use this base - it's got a great wistful earnestness to it.

Base: Apitchou

Inspired by this picture, I made this as a gift for the judges of my first ever contest, a historical French fashion affair.

Base: Appledore Isle

If there's a theme here at PoppedArtDolls, it must be this: character dolls that in no way resemble the character they were created to represent. But I keep trying anyway. I based my first ever HP doll on a movie still for Goblet of Fire, hence the mussy locks. Actually, all the characters look shaggier in the upcoming installment . . . I'm happy my hair will soon be inadvertently cool.

Base: Magic Lessons

This mini-doll/icon was created as a gift for Pixie Wildflower. I had been dying to use this base for awhile. My first ever fairy doll! I don't know why she's wearing pink overalls, but I've found it best not to ponder my "creative" decisions anymore.

Base: Xandorra's Place

A thiefy-type character for Arianwyn on one of her favourite basemaker's bases.

The Men of Firefly

Base: Eclectic Blue

These five guys are the entire male contigency of Joss Whedon's Firefly - a show I was recently introduced to and instantly loved. This was a gift for Medox, who has dolled the female half of the crew.

Base: Dollz by MBladez

Major Houlihan, for M*A*S*H fan ElementalGirl.

Base: Random Doodles

Created for the talented MBladez, I drew a fascinating Asian top I found online in her favourite colour.

Base: Random Doodles

As soon as I heard Zenmistress was a Spike fan, I was inspired to make a Spikey av. Terrible shading job on the jacket, but I'm somewhat happy with his impossible to draw bleached locks.

18th Century Scottish Highlander

Base: Joyful Girl (site closed)

Made as a gift for the inspiring and talented Oyye Vey of Oops I Arted. She mentioned a thing for all things Scottish, so I found an illustration of an 18th century Scottish Highlander and went to work. I didn't draw the tartan, of course. I just couldn't do it justice. The rest of him is mine and I'm proud of it!

Mini Clerks

Base: PoppedArtDolls

The Clerks crew (Dante, Randall, Jay and Silent Bob), made for Kevin Smith fan Mommyfeet. Hopefully one day I'll get around to doing a larger version of these guys . . . before Clerks 2 is released.

Base: Joyful Girl (site closed)

This is me and my RL sister, made at the request of the latter. I'm trying to convince her to take up dolling because she's a much better artist than I am. Hopefully my efforts will pay off one day . . . . On a different note, I like my feathery hair and wish it looked like that in RL!

Base: If Looks Could Kill

Another request for my RL sister. She asked for a mountain biking outfit. I told her I didn't know what that was, but drew one anyway. And hated it. Hated it so much that I didn't tell her I made it. Now, half a year later, it doesn't look so bad to me. So C, if you're reading this, your order is (finally) ready!
