So I volunteered to judge Frog's brilliantly conceived Lazy Man's Pageant, and then found out I had to make a doll of myself - and quick! I whipped this off in one sitting, and I just . . . should never do that. I definitely need to interrupt my sits with the sober Standing Up and Walking About and Maybe Even Sleeping A Little Bit Dance O' Perspective. Because editing is good and doesn't leave me wondering just what the #$%# is up with hair that defies logic, gravity and aesthetic.

The doll everyone has see a hundred times now. Yeee! My third take on the tenth doctor, but the first one that made it to completion. I will never forget The Great Tennant Hair Battle of '10. And still it rages on, transferring over to the next generation because the Smith Front is just as jaunty and weird, but fortunately not as spiky and jshooushy. ANYWAY. Secret Santa gift for Nymph and I am uncharacteristically pleased with myself, despite some obvious faults coughcoughcoughcoughthecoatcoughcoughcoughcough.

The other bit o' the Nymphy gifts. I never, ever animate stuff when I'm making it for myself, so I don't know what motivates me to do it for others. Well, aside from the fact that I've had o-s's Carmel Dansen base in my folders for quite awhile and it was be-hegging to be used. Seeing it on a dark background exposes a couple evil shortcuts I took, fudgeitallanyway. And it just now occurred to me that I should have flicked the screwdriver switch as part of the animation, fudgeitallsomemore.

Secret Santa-ing is so much fun, but I always wonder if I can get the requisite dolling done amidst the flurry that is RL Christmas Chraziness. You can imagine both my delight and terror when I signed up for SS events at TWO different forums. I'm amazed I got everything done. Voila a doll for Keke at Glam. She wanted anything to do with the San Francisco Giants and I occasionally get inspired to doll a guy in (a sports) uniform so . . . this. That's what so great about being inspired by a request: the synchronicity of expectation and inspiration.

Dolls 2 & 3 for A Very Keke Christmas. This is her character Kale. For some reason, I stuck one of him in Victorian garb. I suppose it's because Christmas always makes me think of A Blackadder Christmas Carol, so of course top hats and long jackets are a must. Oh, and heaps of snarky verbal abuse (not pictured here).

Base: Glam! Exclusive, edits by Demoncat (and me!)

There was a time when collabs were going great guns at Glam, but they're starting to die off, which is kinda a shame, as they were a good source of inspiration for me in the lean times. This one was a a delightfully incongruous mix of favourite board game and video game characters. I did one of each: to the left is Professor Plum from Clue and to the right is Charlie from Street Fighter Alpha 2. I always had a soft spot for Charlie. He was absolute crap to play (stupid, slow, Guile-like moves!), but I liked his character design, from his not-at-all-likely-to-be-found-in-the-army hairstyle, to his thinking man's glasses. He may be able to kick your teeth in and cause your kidneys to collapse with one punch, but he's sensitive, you see. (Because while people who wear glasses have souls of poets, people who contacts are complete and utter jerks.)

P.S. - You can see the full-on finished collab ici.

Upon reuniting with FeyMeggan after a bit of a lapse, we somehow got on to aSpaceballs quoteathonofest that kicked my urge to doll into overdrive. Bow before Lord Dark Helmet and his inappropriate shirt!

"So Lonestar, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb!"

Base: If Looks Could Kill

Another Glam collab contribution. This particular collab was years in the making . . . it started, it died, I took over the reins, resurrected it, and defribrillated that poor horse until it limped, wheezing and sputtering, over the finish line. Looky! Proof!

I chose to doll Roxy. She was the first Jem doll I owned, so I have a soft spot for her. Plus, the Misfits are so much cooler than Pinkhair and the Losertons.

Base: wish04

More collabness! When I saw the call for a South Park collab, I couldn't resist because a) small bases = knowing I can finish a doll without fleeing in a fit of intimidated terror, and b) after dolling my first six SP dolls, I still had a SP itch to scratch. This time I tried some minor characters: Craig, Clyde, Token & Jimmy. Final collab: ici.

Base: Apitchou

I was a big fan of Glee during the first half of the first season, before character continuity became an issue that made my teeth shorter on account of the grinding. At the time, I wanted to doll the core cast, but inspiration and RL conspired against me. A TV character contest was just enough motivational juice to get one doll done. I chose Puck because . . . . do I really need a reason? He's Puck.

Base: Pixellite

THIS. This is probably what brought my will to doll back from the dead: an Axis Powers Hetalia collab at Glam. When I first read the proposition, I had never heard of the series, but I saw that it featured guys in military outfits, which is so far up my alley that it's fighting racoons for possession of my recycle bins. As an added bonus, each character in the series is the personification of a different country, which I thought was a really interesting idea, even if it didn't make a wick of sense. (Like, why is Poland a spacey Valley Girl? Shouldn't he be the most depressing, ennui-filled character in the entire show?!)

From top to bottom, left to right: Egypt, Cuba, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Hong Kong.

This collab has been going on for years. PLURAL. Hence the number of dolls. I kinda got addicted to the characters (and the base!). These are presented in the order that I made them, and I think you can tell. Emerging-from-funk Egypt is definitely the weakest of the bunch. Latvia & Lithuania demonstrate my growing bravery with base editing. Granted, they're fairly minor edits, so think of this adventure as less of a hike across the Everest and more of a bus trip to the local petting zoo.

No links to the final product because it ain't done yet! Longest! Collab! Ever!

Base: KawaiiHannah (top), base-o-holic (bottom)

These APH dolls were made in between creating the six dolls above, as a bit of a break from looking at the same project over and over again, and also as an excuse to use a couple of bases I had a hankerin' to try. On the top is bed head Germany, with Italy & Holy Roman Empire dolls respectively, and on the bottom is Hungary and Austria as Lucy and Schroeder. I thought I was so clever when I made that particular connection, only to find out on DA that many, many, many people had obtained memberships to the Obvious Club ahead of me.

I love forum-wide exchange events (see SS dolls above), so when Glam held their Re-Doll Another Member's Doll event, I was quick to sign up. This is my take on my recipient's OC. She quit the forum before the event was over, so I never found out what she thought about it, although I suspect she would probably hate how I sucked all the edge out of her vampiress. From a technical standpoint, I rather like her. I rarely do skirts and girly shoes, so when I attempt them and they come out decently, I'm always a bit shockified.

One spike of creativity during The Great Dolling Funk of I Can't Remember Exactly When was Odyrah's contest, which was a tremendously awesome idea: take a My Little Pony and turn it into a doll. This inspired me to make rough drafts of no less than 5 different ponydolls in one afternoon. Two made it to completion and into the contest. This was the first one. She's based on Gusty, who is decked out in maple leaves. You can kinda see the thread of this one, eh?

I chose to pixel shade her. It was a completely spontaneous decision and I still don't know why I made it. This is the first doll (that wasn't, like, 100 pixels tall) I ever pixel shaded. Verdict? Uh . . . mehrg?

Base: Porcelain Doll

Second My Little Pony entry. This is Glory and he's a guy because my sisters and I always thought of Glory as a male, despite having a little girl's voice in the cartoon. After traveling miles outside my comfort zone with Gusty (pixel shaded AND the first time I had dolled a sports uniform/equipment), I stuck with what I know for Glory: a guy in a suit.

Base: Apitchou

A doll based on a character from a TV show I'm too embarrassed to admit I watched. Suffice to say that it was from the 2007-09ish era when a lot of bad network shows were being made, aired, and cancelled very quickly. I like how the doll turned out though, so he stays. Anonymously.

Base: Jishin

"WHY DO YOU KEEP RECYCLING YOUR LOST DOLLS ON YOUR NEWEST PAGE?!" you may be screaming right now, to which I would reply, "You're screaming at a website. Have you considered medication for this?" and then following it up with a "Yes, I know, but I keep tweaking and fiddling and adding."

Tweaks and fiddles: Jack's hair. It grew, so I redolled him (wearing the shirt that he wore for three straight years). And then his hair grew some more, so I'll probably have to doll him again.

Additions: Daniel, Desmond and Ben. Except Daniel and Desmond don't seem quite right to me, so I'll be tweaking and fiddling them in the future. (That sounded way more suspect than I meant it to). I'm happy with Mr. Linus, though. I think I managed to capture just an iota of his freaky 10 yard stare, which isn't exactly easy, given the absolute ADORABLENESS of the base.

Hmm. And I think I'll have to post these guys separately next time. It seems to me that, according to fandom, if Jack and Sawyer appear together in any one format, the WORLD WILL IMPLODE (uh . . . again).

And now we get into one of the core reasons why this site hasn't been updated in forever and a day: I totally fell behind in my contest award dolls. I didn't want to hold any more contests or start any new dolls until I had finished them all, but the list got longer and more intimidating and more time started to pass and RL issues started piling up and it scared me off of the whole dolling thing altogether. I came so very close to officially announcing on the site that I was calling it quits . . . but I couldn't do it in good conscience knowing I had promised dolls to other people. A lot of the dolls below were challenging to complete because I was completely devoid of dolling inspiration at the time. Fortunately, I was able to pull a few reluctant rabbits out of my hat, although there are still more to go. (THE. GUILT. OF. IT. ALL.)

Contest win doll for FeyMeggan: Evil Lyn from Masters of the Universe, as requested . . . two and a half years ago. GADZOOKS!

Verbina also had to wait an unreasonably long time for her contest win dolls. She mentioned a few TV shows and movies she liked, and I was delighted to see Wolverine included in the list, since I always wanted to doll him in his X-Men #1 movie garb.

The crew of the original Star Trek, also for Verbina. I think the new Star Trek movie was shot, edited, played in theatres and released on DVD in the time it took me to finish this set!

I couldn't tell you exactly when I made either of these dolls (@#$% DRIVE REFORMAT!), but I do know they were short afternoon projects made for forum challenges (left: a Fractured Fairytales Base of the Month challenge, right: a weekly Glam challenge) to try and loosen up my ironclad dolling recalcitrance.

Contest award doll for Penny. This doll made me realize that while I love dolling guys, I stick to a certain type when it comes to hair and clothes. Dolling her character was as foreign to me as creating a female doll in a couture dress. I need more edginess in my dolling life. Note to self: keep actively trying to expand your dolling horizons. Oh, and figure out how to do long coats properly. Oh, AND stop being so lazy with your shading.

Base: Pandemonium

My first avatar for Glam, made shortly after it opened. I had wanted to use this av base by Pande for awhile, and it seemed like a perfect opportunity. I remember removing it after a couple of weeks because I thought I did such a terrible job with it, but in retrospect, it's not as horrifying as I once thought. The hair is kinda nonsensical, but aside frrom that, I kinda like it.

This was made so long ago that I can't even remember who it's for, just that the person in question was a big fan of Jane Austen and Pride and Prejudice. I was watching the multihoured BBC series (Colin Firthy edition) at the time, so it made quite a big stamp on this pair.

Oooooold contest win doll that should have been posted here eons ago but wasn't, for whatever reason. (Stupid mental lapses!) Anyway, King, as one of the winners of the CL contest (circa aught seven), asked for a doll using these particular colours and this doll just sorta  . . . appeared. I have no idea who could have done it. It couldn't have been me because it's good. Freakishly so. It almost weirds me out, but in a good way. Kinda like Pumpkin Pocky.

Base: Apitchou

This doll is not new at all. It's actually around 5 years old. It kinda got lost in the growing haystack that is my doll collection, but I noticed him not too long ago and thought I should change his status. This was once a gift for Teri: a Phil Keoghan doll I made after we discussed our mutual love for the awesome and fetching host of The Amazing Race. Now that Teri's gone, I don't think she would mind at all if others shared in the greatness that is The Philiminator. So now he's fully adoptable, to be enjoyed by all.
