Series Dolls
![]() ![]() | Base: wish04 You know, I never thought I had a muse, but now I know I do. It's a square box with rabbit ears and it's called "Teevee". I don't know why I'm compelled to doll random things I see on television, but I'm learning to accept it with only moderate amounts of embarrassment. Remember the Hollywood writer's strike of aught eight? Remember how late night kingpins Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart created a fake feud that culminated in "The Brawl in the Hall"? Remember how awesome that was? So awesome, in fact, that I had to pay it tribute. I've always wanted to doll Stewart & Colbert anyway. The dolls on the left are three separate files. If you would like to commemorate this ménage à awesome with a all three in one file, click here. |
![]() | Base: Misfit Ghost Dollz Remember when Heroes was awesome and not a sucktastic mess that made your eyes bleed and your brain cry? Yeah. Those were the days. Season 1 inspired me to make many a doll (as you will soon see), including Sylar (left) and Peter (right) in Final Showdown mode. Still love Sylar's "too funky for evil people" boots after all these years! |
Bases: Jishin If Locke looks familiar to you, well he should, since he's been floating around this site for a looooong time. When I first posted him, I mentioned wanting to give him a hug from time to time. And then I realized there were a few other characters on the show whom I wouldn't mind giving a hug, although for very different reasons. So Locke was eventually joined by Sawyer and Jack, whose hairline I have drawn fourteen hundred thousand million times. Shaved heads ain't easy folks! Neither is curly hair, which is why the equally huggable Jin and Sayid aren't here at the party . . . yet.

Base: Shocked (site closed) One of my favourite time killers (and I have maaany) is to aimlessly meander through my gargantuan base vaults, looking, but not necessarily touching. On one such amble, this base jumped out at me. It totally reminded me of something . . . but what?! Answer: The Office, specifically the "Business School" episode, where Ryan gets relegated to the back of the office next to his clingy girlfriend Kelly. She hugs him from behind, just like this, and squeals "omigod, omigod, omigod!!" I hope I did the moment justice!
|
Base: Shouri Oddly enough, I had two"A-ha!" base/Office experiences in one week! (Does this mean I've been watching the show too much? Nah . . .) I've had this Shouri base in my collection for a long time, and one day I realized how much it looks like Jim Halpert. Well . . . it does in my universe! The hair probably needs to be longer and pointier, but I kind of like the cleaner cut look. Mmmm. Jimness.

|
Base: If Looks Could Kill I've been pretty inspired by this show as of late, although that inspiration starts to wane during seven week hiatuses. Stupid hiatuses. Anyway, my personal favourite doll in this set is Mohinder. Adorable! Oh. In case I suck at pixelly representation, these are the characters from left to right, top to bottom: Hiro, Isaac, Mr. Bennet, Claire, Nathan, Niki, DL, Matt, Mohinder & Peter. Will there be more coming? Oooo . . . maybe! All these files are separated. If you'd like to adopt all 10 in one file, click here.

Base: Faery Ink This was actually my first attempt at the cast of Heroes. While I was working on this guy, sanity payed me a call and pointed out very politely that even at this modest size, the task would take me foreeeeever. So I never got past one. C'est okay because multiple HRGs are never a bad thing. Moral ambiguity is so intriguing! As are horn rimmed glasses! Admittedly, he looks a little bird-like in the face, but I think it's a combination of the base's facial features and my glasses, which I refused to compromise.

Base: Duk-Toonz First Hero doll started, last (latest) one finished. I tried Hiro out on three different bases, but just couldn't get the doll to look remotely like him. Weirdly enough, Duk's cartoony Booduh base seemed to fit the bill (well, it works in my tiny brain. No, really!) As I was pixeling away, I realized I could make use of all the great expressions that come with this base, et voila! Hiro at his vein-popping, time and space-bending best! One animated and one not animated, for those who find animation makes their eyes all googly after awhile.

Base: Hope Cafe (doll) / Crazie Cathie (pumpkin) There's a novel in the works to explain this one, but until my editor finishes with the manuscript (my keyboard was missing all the vowels, so the book reads rather like a license plate issuing office), I'll just say this: I'm continuing the theme of dressing my doll self up for Halloween and carving a related pumpkin. This year? I'm the defender of truthiness himself. The pumpkin displays the number one threat to America. Scary! Also? I never do backgrounds. I will continue to not do backgrounds while I recover from this one. |

Base: PoppedArtDolls A sample for my mini-series contest. Hopefully the job is decent enough for you to recognize the characters from my now favourite TV show. Creating small dolls is so much trickier than it looks . . . every pixel counts, whether you want it to or not!

Base: Shouri A little scene from the Season 2 finale of The Office, US division. I'll fight the temptation to rant about how I was cheated out of this moment by my local affiliate, which decided to air a re-run instead. By the way, this did not result in me finding snippets of the show on YouTube and watching them over and over and over again, because that would reek of sadness and desperation and indicate an individual who is much in need of a life. ;) Jam! Go Jam! |
Base: Apitchou It's odd that I went on a temporary Mal dolling bender when my favourite character of the show is actually Wash. At any rate, some strange whim urged me to innaccurately portray Mal in his duds from the "Shindig" episode. Hey! It's Cap'n Tightpants! |

Base: Joyful Girl (site closed) Yet another
spur-of-the-moment, I-see-it-then-I-doll-it creations. C'est Earl from
My Name Is Earl, which is my third favourite current comedy (well,
second, now that Arrested Development has been egregiously cancelled).
I couldn't get the hair right (it's different in every episode, you know!),
but I had fun with it anyway. :) |
|
|
Base: If Looks Could Kill I've always
wanted to doll a few characters from my current favourite TV show, but
could never scrape together the time. I compromised by attempting teeny
tiny versions of Buster, GOB, Lindsay and Michael Bluth from Arrested
Development. This attempt has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the fact
that I may or may not have just watched the entire second season on DVD
in two sittings. Or one. No, two. Or one. |

Base: Mariiiis Doll House One day after watching Ana Lucia's feature debut in Lost, I stumbled on a "Girls Who Kick Ass" contest and felt compelled to doll this tough-as-nails character. Of course, this was before she bought a membership to The Crazy Club and started shooting people indiscriminantly . . . . |
| Base: If Looks Could Kill "Fetch . . . the comfy chair!" I had a bit
of a Monty Python theme going for Halloween this year, and for some reason
I decided to plunk the Spanish Inquisition into a pumpkin. Because no
one would expect that. Anyway, now Cardinal Ximinez and Biggles are adoptably
pumpkin free! |

Base: Dollz by MBladez So there I was, flipping channels, and settling on the MTV Movie Awards. And there I was, watching Jimmy Fallon in a jacket, untucked shirt and white sneakers. And suddenly, there I was dolling it. Don't ask. It will make my brain hurt terribly. ;) |

Joyful Girl (site closed) Update!
One quarter done! Say hi to a shaggy-haired Rik. At this pace, this unofficial
project will be completed somewhere in the neighbourhood of 2024. I can't
help it; I have one speed setting: glacial. |
![]() |
Base: If Looks Could Kill I still can't believe I actually resorted to dolling a reality show contestant, but he was inspired by a conversation at FF wherein mutual like for geeky, gangly dolphin trainers was shared. I knew I could knock off a guy in nothing but shorts fairly quickly, hence the doll version of Ian from Survivor Pulau. This was done shortly before the series finale, which I still can't talk about without an overwhelming urge to throttle something.

Base: Joyful Girl (site closed) After only two seasons, one of my favourite TV shows -- Joan of Arcadia -- was cancelled. [Long winded rant about evil TV network executives and ratings and time slots and age skews removed for your enjoyment.] After buying Season 1 of JoA on DVD, I dolled two of my favourite characters to console myself. This is everyone's favourite boyfriend, Adam Rove. |
![]() ![]() |
Base: Joyful Girl (site closed) My second favourite character, the ever-militant Grace Polk. Although I like the jacketless version better, it just isn't Grace without her big, black leather jacket. |
![]() |
Base: Eclectic Blue For a forum challenge where the idea was to doll a Star Trek character. I had to settle on a character from a series I actually watched and in the end, there was a coin toss between Chakotay and McCoy. Poor Bones. He's a doctor, not a pixel doll. |
![]() |
Base: Pinkland Princess Mitzi, from Monty Python's Fairy Tale. Complete with the Book of Princes, though without Herman, because I didn't have the heart to draw a bunny suffering from gastroenteritis. |
![]() |
Base: Dollz by Mbladez Dave, Bruce, Kevin, Mark and Scott, circa 1989, the first season of Kids in the Hall. I believe I drew them after buying the Season 1 DVD and watching the whole thing in two sittings. |
![]() |
Base: Joyful Girl (site closed) Speaking of . . . my favourite two characters to ever emerge from Kids in the Hall: South American film star Francesca Fiore and her lover, Bruno Puntz Jones. |
![]() |
Base: Hush Rik, Neil,
Mike and Vyvyan from The Young Ones looking much, much cuter
than they probably should. Originally, Mike was wearing his sunglasses,
but it looked more like he had just been assaulted by Vyv. So now he's
just Mike TheSlightlyLessCoolPerson. |

Base: If Looks Could Kill Viewing
one episode of South Park recently = one South Park doll. Here's Stan, Kyle, Kenny, Butters, Wendy and Tweek. Will there be any more? I don't know. I kind of lost my momentum with this particular project. Just in time too . . . I don't think I could have made a proper-looking Cartman doll. Drawing a hood on an oversized head is hard enough! |

Base: Magenta Stars As soon as I saw this base, I had this in mind: back to back Jem and Pizzazz. |
![]() |
Base: Heartsdesire's Fantasy Really rough, but this rendition of Pizzazz was one of my first dolls, so I'm letting it slide. It was my also my first time drawing a face and I'm pretty happy with it. Lesson learned? There's a verrry fine line between an expression with attitude and an expression of wild-eyed psychosis. |
