A before and after? A very unintentional one. The recent doll on the right was made after trawling YouTube and watching music videos of bands/artists I like (because it's not like music video channels are going to play them, or indeed, any music videos at all). Once I had viewed Joel Plaskett Emergency's "Fashionable People" video a few dozen times, I felt compelled to recreate Mr. Plaskett. With an entirely incorrect hairstyle. Oh well, I think the clothes are right!

As I was posting him here, I realized I had dolled him before. A looooooong time ago. Joel on the left is one of the very first dolls I made (I buried him so deep in my folders that I forgot he existed). I believe I traced the outline from a low-res capture of a third generation VHS copy of Thrush Hermit's "French Inhale" video. Which some may consider cheating, but it's a rather inefficient form of cheating n'est-ce pas?

This guy came out of a desire to start using my own bases, and a perusal of publicity pics from my third favourite band. I'm not totally happy with the result, as he looks a bit more like an office drone than a rock dude with an ironic necktie, but there it is. Maybe it's the glasses?

Ever since I saw this base several years ago, I've had this exact idea for a doll. It's based on a backstage photograph taken of one of my favourite bands. I was going to auction him off, but he turned out so well that I feel like I have to share him with the world.

Update! I'm now adding the entire contest entry. I worked too darn hard on that background for it to sit collect file folder mould.

Two They Might Be Giants contests in one month! Whoda thunk it? This one was for a TMBG Artistic Vision contest where the entrant had to include items mentioned in TMBG songs. I worked in four items in an attempt to illustrate a scene from one of my favourite Giants songs ("Ana Ng").

Sloan is one of my favourite subjects to depict in any shape or form. I based this cee-ute rendering on a promo shot.

My favourite band, The Inbreds, inspired from the "Drag Us Down" video, where the duo clones itself in order to increase the profit margin. All the instruments were drawn by me, except for the electric guitar, which came from a clipart site called Paperman's, which disappeared over six years ago.
