Base: Porcelain Doll

One of my favourite movies of '07 was The Darjeeling Limited. After viewing the aforementioned DVD, I was all revved up to make the three Whitman brothers, but alas, I only got as far as Adrian Brody's character, Peter. My dolling stamina ain't what it used to be.

Looking at him right now, I realized I forgot to draw jacket buttons. Wow, is that going to bug me, although I suspect it won't bug me enough to actually take him back into PS and create some.

Hot off the presses, it's a sample doll for one of my former contests (Summer Movie Crossover). It is a sample doll that breaks my very own contest rules. Go me and my rebel brain! Voila Mr. Potter dressed as a Caribbean Pirate in Gryffindor colours. Have at him, ye scurvy Muggles!

Base: Apitchou

Pathetically enough, I waited almost until Halloween 2006 to watch Shaun of the Dead. I really have to train myself to rent videos! Anyway, I loved it so much, I watched it twice in a row (three if you count commentary) before sprinting up the street to return it to the rental store in time. I think it will have to go on my Christmas list. Nothing says Christmas like a zombie movie, right?

Voila Shaun pre-zombie war and post-zombie war. I was greatly disturbed by how much I enjoyed painting the blood spatter.

Teri's August FF challenge was one of those challenges that intimidates, yet intrigues. For the first time ever, I was looking at dolling a movie character from a movie I had never seen before. I chose Al Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon (a movie that is on my depressingly long list of "Things I Just Gotta Watch"). Duk's Eminem base seems kinda Pacinoey, which is both weird and wonderful. I totally screwed up the perspective on the legs, though. I'm not sure how. Maybe Al has a detachable pelvis. I hear all the celebrities are getting them these days.

And so I said to myself, "No more dolls for at least two months!" And then I saw a member challenge at FF where the task was to doll Johnny Depp as any character he played in a movie. Eeeeeevil! Not only do I like Johnny Depp, but I love the wide variety of characters he plays. What I quickly noticed is that a lot of his characters wear clothes that are black, black and black with some variations of grey. I suppose that's what happens when you collaborate with Tim Burton a lot. Anyway, it came down to Victor from The Corpse Bride and Ichabod Crane from Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod won out, despite his all-black ensemble.

I went rather Ape-itchou (laugh, please) over this base for awhile. I really like how masculine their faces are. I created this doll for Scatron's "Golden Age of Hollywood" contest. My first choice was to doll Jimmy Stewart from Harvey, but that movie's pretty far removed from the goldeny era, so I backed up and chose the fillibuster scene from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington instead. I spent forever on the mussy hair, and not so forever on the sheets of paper, which I had no idea how to shade. Anyone out there know how to shade paper? Please let me know - it's a Caramilk-level mystery to me.

Base: If Looks Could Kill

In between my frequent rants about how The Brothers Grimm was unfairly reviewed, I managed to find some energy to doll Jake & Will (AKA Heath & Matt) for a Brothers Grimm contest. I've always wanted to draw those nifty a late 18th century short jackets with tails. They're the keeniest!

Base: If Looks Could Kill

My local TV station aired Shanghai Noon recently, and I felt compelled to doll Owen Wilson as Roy O'Bannon. Mmm . . . western wear.

Base: Joyful Girl (site closed)

Dolled for a Cult Movie Character contest. I had a difficult time choosing which character to tackle, and I'm not precisely sure why I chose one from a movie that 6 people have seen (it's a really small cult). I think this is the first time my character doll has even remotely resembled the character it's supposed to portray. Go me and my obsolete parking meter!

I really have to stop entering contests when the deadline is mere hours away. I think my brain is getting an ulcer. This is for a Princess Leia contest. I've always wanted to doll Leia in Endor camo, so I started to do that, but then I went insane and did Leia as Bounty Hunter Boushh instead. Why do I insist on doing things to me? Regardless, I'm happy with the result.

*Insert Jabba-the-Hut-like laugh here*

(Hoo, hoo, hoo!)

Base: Sanity Challenged

Created for a contest that never saw the light of day. Cheer up, Schmendrick from The Last Unicorn! I hear Jonathan Rhys Meyers is rumored to play you in the live action film that has been in development for several years and probably will never be made.

Base: Random Doodles

Yay! Finally together at last! A recent Hamlet contest motivated me to finish Rosencrantz, so now Hamlet's two courtiers, as seen in Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead are together again. As they should be. Because having a Guil without a Ros is like having eggs without bacon, or a burger without fries, or a Thanksgiving dinner without Aunt Claire's mystery fruit salad.

Base: Milkybox

I made this doll for an Audrey Hepburn contest that's been in limbo for quite some time, so I've decided to make her adoptable. The outfit is from Funny Face. I think I got the colours right, but the pattern kind of reminds me of the kitchen curtains in the Simpson abode.

Base: Wayuki's Place

His name is Inigo Montoya. You know the rest.

Sorsha from Willow. I totally have to make a Madmartigan doll to go with.

Base: Random Doodles

Bravely bold Sir Robin, from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways.

Well, maybe a little.

Base: Random Doodles

Another character from The Holy Grail. Some call him . . . Tim.

Martin Blank with one of my favourite quotes from Grosse Pointe Blank. An all-black doll. I must have been full of five kinds of crazy.
