Dolls Based on Book Characters

Base: Joyful Girl

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy crew: Arthur, Zaphod, Trillian and Ford. Not based on the TV series or movie, just my perception of them when reading the books. I was given kind permission by Joyful Girl (who is also a fan of the series) to modify her base to accomodate ZB's extra limbs and heads.

Base: Hush

Okay, I admit it. I'm a Ford Prefect freak. One of the reasons why I like Hitchhikers so much is the way Ford is written. He's a man of contradictions: charismatic and admirable, yet a self-centered jerk. He's very laidback, but manic at the same time. Anyway, I've always pictured him in khakis and a grossly miscalculated shirt. And no, I didn't draw the pattern on the shirt.

Base: Cherry Lime Soda

Yet another Ford doll, this one for a forum challenge. Again, I thought I'd go for an odd wardrobe combo, but it actually doesn't look that bad. Here he's accompanied by his sub-etha device and an unremarkable rendering of that wholly remarkable book.

Base: The Cyberlair

Hamlet for the 21st century, wondering if he should take forensic archaeology at the University of Aalborg next semester.

P.S.: I know Hamlet is a play and not a book. But it's very book-shaped, wouldn't you agree? :p

Base: Unknown Artist

This was my first doll to fall prey to the .gif monster. He seemed to have a taste for Hamlet's hair, and when he was finished munching on the prince's head, it looked like Hammy had a bad case of intermittent male pattern baldness. Poor guy. Check out Laertes' smirk . . . . "C'mon, a duel to the death! I dare ya, baldy!"

Dolls Based on Comic Book Characters

Base: PoppedArtDolls

It's nice to have a small base with which to knock off something really fast. I had a hankering for a Nightcrawler doll, but only 10 minutes before work. Le voila!

Base: Bunnystick

This superkeen base by Bunnystick just begs to be adorned with superheroes. These are a tribute to my comic collecting days waaaybackwhen. Gambit was always a favourite, even though his wardrobe choices were maddening. The jacket? Cool. The pink and black ensemble? Not so much. Which is why I dug up some current pics to base this doll on. (So glad they got rid of that outfit!)

Base: Bunnystick

I was never keen on classic Nightcrawlerwear either, so I chose civvies that kind of reflect the old costume. I tried making the bottom of the pants white to recall the boots, but it looked rather frightening, in a disco-y sort of way.

Base: Bunnystick

Wolverine's civvies were a result of sheer laziness. The hair could use more work, but the claws turned out nicely.

Base: Crystal Dreams (no URL)

The Chainsaw Vigilante from The Tick comic book series. It's a shame he never turned up on the cartoon or live action show, because he is the awesome. Disturbed, but awesome. This is probably the fifth or sixth doll I ever attempted and I'm so proud of the black leather, which I've never been able to duplicate since. *cries*
